"Glycaemic Efficacy of Glitazones"

Dr. Sophia Zoungas (biography)
English - 2007-11-10 - 31 minutes
(42 slides)

Summary :
In this presentation Dr. Zoungas discusses the efficacy of glitazone monotherapy. She introduces the ADOPT study which compares the efficacy of three different monotherapies, including a glitazone (1).

In the UKPDS over time, it was shown that treatment with metformin or sulphonylurea becomes less efficient (2). Dr. Zoungas talks about the current management of type 2 diabetes (3), and the delays that often occur between stepping up from monotherapy to combination therapy.

The ADOPT study showed promising results for the glitazone, but as Dr. Zoungas points out, there are still some safety concerns to be investigated.
