Summary :
In this presentation, Dr. Stephen Colagiuri examines how clinical practice guidelines are developed and asks “have the guidelines jumped ahead of the evidence” in diabetes.
Dr. Colagiuri discusses what our expectations of clinical practice guidelines are, the limitations of guidelines, and gives an overview of how guidelines are developed and what is involved in their preparation.
Dr. Colagiuri also discusses why we are prepared to accept certain levels of evidence in certain circumstances, but demand higher levels in others and gives examples of these.
The presentation concludes with a discussion of the results of the CARDS study.
