"Obesity Management Part II - Lifestyle Modification"Dr. Trisha O'Moore-Sullivan (biography)
English - 2005-09-11 - 16 minutes
|
 | (13 slides) |
Summary :
In this segment Dr. O'Moore-Sullivan talks about the methods of lifestyle modification that can be used to reduce weight, and what kinds of results they can achieve.
Diets used for weight loss fall under the broad categories of energy reduced, low energy, very low energy, and low glycaemic index diets. Dr. O'Moore-Sullivan describes some different kinds of diets and their pros and cons.
In addition to reducing energy intake, one can increase their energy expenditure. National guidelines recognize the need for promoting physical activity to patients, and Dr. O'Moore-Sullivan talks about what amounts of exercise would be needed for weight maintenance versus weight loss. Exercise alone is inefficient for causing weight loss, although the resulting decrease in cardiovascular risk makes it desirable for all patients.
