Summary :
Obesity is an important contributing factor in the metabolic syndrome, and can lead to the development of localized and systemic inflammation in different ways.

Dysregulation of adipokine secretion, elevated free fatty acid levels and fat distribution all play a part in the development of inflammation in the setting of obesity. In this presentation Dr. Prins talks about all these factors, how they bring about inflammatory responses, and what treatment options can reduce their impact.
