Summary :
This presentation will review the new CDA 2003 lipid guidelines, their scientific basis, and the use of combination therapy to achieve target lipid levels.
As it is not always possible for the diabetic patient to achieve target or optimal levels of triglycerides, HDL and LDL on hypolipidemic monotherapy, various studies have been looking at the safety and efficacy of different agents used in combination, such as statin plus niacin (1) or statin plus fibrate (2, 3). Information gleaned from these kinds of studies will be discussed in detail here.
